14.5. - 17.5. in Bangkok

3 Tage Bangkok
Anreise und Abreise mit einem sogenannten VIP-Bus, 24 Plätze, ausgestattet mit Art Flugzeugsitzen und so gehen die 860km auch halbwegs bequem vorbei. 12h Fahrt sind es dennoch.

Tag 1
Ankunft in Bangkok um 7:30. Am Vormittag ein Treffen mit der Hope Church in Bangkok und man erlebt die typische thailändische Mentalität, sprich alles dauert relativ lange. Am Nachmittag gehts dann mit dem Schiff zum großen Palastbezirk, wo es vor lauter Gold nur so glänzt.

Tag 2
An diesem Tag war Shopping angesagt bzw. die Stadt erkunden. Bangkoks Luft ist alles andere als gut und manchmal hat man doch einigermaßen damit zu kämpfen. Umso besser sind dafür die Einkaufsmöglichkeiten. Riesige Malls, wobei manche durchaus ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis haben, aber ob alles ganz original ist weiß man hier ja nie so genau ;)
Ein 7 stöckiges Gebäude wo man alles aus dem Thema Elektronik, v.a. PC & Komponenten bekommt. Auch mp3s und alle aktuellen Filme und CDs werden hier angepriesen. Oder auch 5 Stockwerke nur Kleidung.

Unzählige andere Malls sind vom Preisniveau ähnlich wie bei uns angesiedelt und bieten jede (Luxus-)Marke an. Die meisten Malls sind per "Skywalk" verbunden, sodass man immer unter Dach ist und nie auf Ampeln und Straßenverkehr achten muss. Die Geschäfte sind alle eigentlich ziemlich leer, handelt es sich wohl mehr um Prestige

Präsentation der rggooglemap bei der UNESCO

Report on the presentation of the extension rggooglemap (5.15.2007)
First of all I want to thank Clive Wing for the invitation to the UNESCO Asia and Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, Bangkok, Thailand to give me the chance to present my work on the extension rggooglemap for the content management system TYPO3.
I was also very pleased that so many people (12) took part at the presentation who were all very interested in my work and eager to learn more about it.
My presentation was divided into 2 different parts for different target groups. The first group consisted of the webteam and TYPO3 users in Bangkok and the second presentation was addressed to the GIS team of the UNESCO.

1st presentation
This presentation started with a basic information about the extension rggooglemap explaining the needs for this tool and what can be done with it:

  • Backend
    • There is an own module in the Backend of TYPO3 to get an overview over the current records and the possibility to add and modify existing records using methods like geocoding or auto-completion.
    • The wizard inside a record gives an user the chance to add coordinates to this record in an even more easier way.
    • The different plugins of the extension make the map and its functionality available in the Frontend
  • Frontend
    • There are different views/plugins available which contain all the functionality of the extension like the map itself, a location search box, a search box for all the records and the possibility to show the active records.
    • The template system of the extension allows the administrator of the website to modify the output very easily. A short overview is given.

2nd presentation

  • The 2nd presentation is addressed to the people of the GIS team to provide information over the the following topics:
  • Extend the extension with additional fields in the table using the extension kickstarter.
  • Using TypoScript (TS) to modify the information saved in the database before presenting it to the website viewer.
  • The future concepts of the extension like a custom overlay

3. Tag
Am letzten Tag gings nochmal zum Schaufenster schauen und am Abend dann die Heimreise wieder per Bus. In der ersten Reihe des Busses hatte man richtig viel Platz und auch eine eigene Matratze. Im Board-Kino lief ne Videocd Robocop auf Thai.
